well...............group......... would it be possible to start a dialog as to how we'd like to approach this? I was hoping we would use this forum to "get us all on the same page".
Has everyone already started making their first piece? Do we need to discuss...things like........wall hung sculpture.......verse free standing? etc? attaching different types of materials together? I'm just tryin  to get the ball rollin. I'm sure that I'm not the only one with questions............I hope

Thanks for trying to jump start things here Bill. Many of these participants don't seem to be computer junkies though. In fact, part of the reason you haven't heard from your facilitator yet is that she doesn't own a computer at the moment, but she will soon be borrowing one of mine.
I will be her ventriloquist puppet until then, and I since I am also in the area, I can help with things as well (not that I don't have enough to do already)
As you all have probably read my last update, you know that odd numbered groups won't work exactly like I had planned. I think that Group 1 should probably follow a similar logistical model to what I set up for group 11 which is:

I have broken the group into two pods one with 4 people and one with 5 people. the two pods do a simple exchange  (A gives to B, B gives to C, C gives to D...etc.) within their respective pods over the course of 24 weeks. then the pods exchange the work and start rotating the work again over the course of the next 24 weeks.

In the second 24 week period the pod with 5 people will only have 4 pieces of sculpture so one person in the pod will sit out after each exchange as the work moves around the group.

The pod with 4 people will be having to double up on their work as 4 people will be working on 5 pieces. (one time each, one person will receive two pieces at the exchange)

It works out well for us to do it this way. Melissa, Sluder, Greg, and Bill,  will comprise the first group.  Bill should give to Melissa, Melissa  should give to Greg, Greg should give to Sluder, and Sluder should give to Bill. I think this is most efficient because Melissa and Sluder live together, OR you can work out whatever suits you best.

In Jacksonville and Tallahassee, Lance should give to Charlie, and will bring Deborah's piece to Jesse (Jesse Lance Deborah and Charlie (if he's up for it) take turns doing this drive), Charlie will give to Deborah, Jesse will give to Ken, and Ken will give to Lance.

We will be a little out of sync with each other over the long haul because of the discrepancy in numbers and due to the fact that we have nine people instead of eight. But, If the folks in the larger group can work quickly enough to get one extra exchange in over the next six months, we will be on track, otherwise, we will just take a bit longer to finish up at the end.

If we assume that there are six weeks between exchanges, and there are five people in the largest group, that means you will need to swap all the work between groups somewhere around the middle of February (I think)
I will lay out the calendar more carefully as soon as I can.

As far as wall pieces, vs free standing, or different types of materials, feel free to suggest something, or just mix it up and do what we do best.

hmmm, good questions bill!  what about free standing or wall  mounted?!  it would be nice to have some wall reliefs.  i think variations between pieces will prove to make a successfull show.  if the element you begin wants to be a wall piece,  pass that info along.  does everyone want to abide by initial stipulations like that?  or do we want to remain "intuitive"?
i'm open.

Given that the overall body of work produced by participants in the project is going to be over 100 sculptures, it would be great if some of them were wall hung. One or two wall hung pieces per group would be great.
This will make it much easier to effectively use a variety of gallery spaces at different venues.

How about a couple suspended pieces as well?

One idea that came to mind to make transporting and display easy, would be to make a peice that is flexible enough so it could be rolled up on a spool.

That sounds mighty interesting....but difficult for seven other people to work on....but hey, give it a shot if you can figure it out together.

I think these are great ideas. AND I'll help get the ball rolling in our group by saying that my first component will be a "tier" of an 8 tier mobile. I will send pix today of the horizontal element and a hanging element.

I will also send along with my element the request that we use the mobile design of "series of cascading levers" and maybe some music.....I'm leaning towards.... "May this be love,(Waterfall)" by Hendrix .  Food for thought.....a two tier example.....http://www.customdesignmetalarts.com/sculptures.7.htmlhttp://www.imagillaboration.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=647  .

well I'll take some quick shots of my pieces and get back to you all later. Smiley
