Mike Fell, Winfield Kansas About the Artist Mike currently teaches as a full time instructor of Art and Design at Cowley College in Arkansas City, and as the Ceramics instructor at Southwestern College in Winfield, where he earned his bachelors degree in Art, Biology and Secondary Education. After a long break in his art career raising a family, building a home from scratch, and teaching both art and science in the public school system, he has re-entering the Art world as both a teacher and a sculptor, currently specializing in stone, with some work in metal and clay. Artist's Statement “My artwork is a way for me to exercise my creativity and become more aware of the world around me. Abstract work helps me simplify and eliminate distraction, producing a calming effect. Realism in my work helps me to focus and become more aware as detail is important to the success of the work. As an artist I am still exploring and have not yet developed a true ‘style'. Creating art helps me to connect the reality and spirituality (essence) of what I see around me. It also allows me to go beyond replication and truly create images which exist only in the mind's eye.” |
