GROUP 4 FACILITATOR

Jack Craft, Clarendon Texas

I am a rancher in the panhandle of Texas. I studied economics, sculpture, and ranch mgt. at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth from 1981-1985. After college I sketched rarely and made jewelry often, and read incessantly which suited my creative needs.....until I turned forty. At forty I realized that if I was to do any thing I had better get on with it. At about the same time I started pouring Iron at Tucumcari which has been great.
I like to work with ferrous metal: cast or steel, pure copper, silver, and lead. I would never make art if I had to use bronze, I can't explain it but that's how it is. I don't mind stone, and have done a piece with bamboo, so I guess wood is not totally out as a material. However weight and mass are important considerations to me. I love forged metal; specifically how forged metal is more dense than cast metal and how that weight feels in one's hand.
Currently I have been making cast iron objects that I use as tools to make images with mono type prints. This body of work is currently being shown at Exhibitions 2D in Marfa Texas.
