I am a mother and metal sculptor in that order.  I suppose an artist's statement is supposed to be about my body of work.  My body of work from the past 25 years includes parenting 3 boys under the age of 10, creating metal sculpture, teaching art to children, teens and adults, organic gardening, practicing and teaching yoga, and running a stone architectural ornament company.

The exploration of the figure in clay and non-ferrous metals has preoccupied my art for some time.  The themes of fertility and birth in my metal work developed into floral interpretations that are hammer formed in copper and brass sheet metal and added to recycled metals.

I work on many pieces at once.  I stack objects for a project and set them aside.  I watch them as I walk through my shop.  They are on my mind all of the time.  When I steal an evening from our chaotic life, I finish the project that cries out the loudest.

I took jewelry classes at the Cleveland Institute of Art ages 12-18, graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994 with a BFA in Sculpture, worked as a metal finisher and ornamental iron shop assistant, joined the Boilermaker's Union in California to learn more about welding, moved back to Ohio, took welding and welded art classes at the local vocational school and community college, I currently work as an artist in residence at day care centers and schools in Lorain County, Ohio, I am also co-owner of Fairplay Stonecarvers LLC with my husband.  I am also a member of Artmetal.com.
